Evaluation Question 5

Genre research allowed me to become a lot more aware of my chosen genre. From this extra knowledge I was able to make my magazine represent 'Indie Rock'. Language in my text, my models costumes and poses, the house-style fonts and colours tried to identify with being 'Indie' in the music industry. This would appeal to my target audience as they would recognize the magazine as their type of music which would lead them to be interested in reading/purchasing it.

My Textual Analysis really gave me an in-depth idea of the conventions of magazines and what would be necessary for me to have within my own to make it as professional as possible. To catch my target audiences attention I needed to follow some of these conventions due to familiarity. However I wanted to challenge some of these mainstream ways of music magazines due to my magazine being 'Indie Rock'. I had in mind that the magazines individuality would be its selling point.

In my Secondary Research I investigated real medias reader profiles, such as NME, P.U.N.X, and Rewind, to get an idea of how they as a successful music magazine appealed to their target audiences and who their audience actually were. From this I drew similarities in target audience which allowed me to see first hand what i needed to include in my magazine to appeal to my audience due to either NME and other magazines' success in doing so.

My Primary Research consisted of 10 questions to ask to get another view from the actual audience. This gave me an insight into what I could change about my original plans such as colours used in my house-style or the price of my magazine. The alternative angle on my magazine opened up possibilities that i hadn't thought of myself to make changes that would help make my magazine more appropriate and entertaining for my target audience.
